I am going to share the difficulties that this earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident has brought to the people of Japan. Today I attended a meeting with the civic movement against nuclear energy and nuclear plants and we analyzed the current conditions at Fukushima and the damage by the ongoing radioactivity is enormous. The Government and the mass media try to reassure the people that not that much radiation is being released and they say that everything is safe. But according to our studies, the emitted radiation is being detected at various places at more than 250 kms from Fukushima and is also being detected in lettuce, spinach and milk. However, the Government announces that no radiation has been detected and according to to them it can still be controlled. The reactors are exposed and the cores are in meltdown. The spent rod storage pools have melted for the first time. The exposed reactors are located at the top of the nuclear plant and the firemen are trying to spray water on top of it. I do not expect this accident to be contained any time soon. However, I want the citizens to know the dangers of radioactivity in a correct manner and to have the adequate information of that which is being reported to the public.”
